Warlord

An Insurgent Warlord has been commissioning attacks against British forces in the area with tremendous success, using local civilians as a shield against retribution. His reign of terror is about to be challenged. The SAS have been called in to execute a surgical strike on the Warlords compound and surrounding Insurgent strongholds. Navigating perilous streets and alleys, the SAS must push towards the palace, but the Insurgents have the area well-guarded and won't give it up easily.

General Tactics

Reminiscent of Karkand with its dusty, deserty city streets, this is the most popular map in the Special Forces expansion. Featuring fierce city fighting, high level rooftops (all of which are accessable) and a big palace to battle it out in, this map is an infantry players dream. Rooftops for snipers (and Anti-Tank), street level for the medics, assaults and supports with a bit of armour rolling up behind. With a massive 24 transports on the 64player map, to help ensure fast and fierce battles and an emphasis on protecting the rear flags make this map a winner.

Be sure to check out the Warlord: For Dummies Guide for this map on the bf2s wiki, although is mostly based on playing the map in Infantry Only (IO) mode, a lot of it is still applicable to vehicle mode.

Warlord Oddities

Ignorance or Mistype?

Reading the BF2:SF manual it gives an overview of each map. For Warlord, it clearly states:

“Insurgent and SAS forces square off at a warlord's compound in Fallujah, Afghanistan”.

Spot the error? Fallujah is actually in Iraq LOL

Boats???

To get the vehicle counts in the map, I used the “GamePlayObjects.con” file in the server.zip (refer to the bf2s map modding guide ). In there, was this:

rem [ObjectSpawnerTemplate: CP_16p_WL_SasBase_SpdBoat]
ObjectTemplate.create ObjectSpawner CP_16p_WL_SasBase_SpdBoat
ObjectTemplate.activeSafe ObjectSpawner CP_16p_WL_SasBase_SpdBoat
ObjectTemplate.modifiedByUser “tomga”
ObjectTemplate.isNotSaveable 1
ObjectTemplate.hasMobilePhysics 0
ObjectTemplate.setObjectTemplate 2 usart_lw155
ObjectTemplate.minSpawnDelay 360
ObjectTemplate.maxSpawnDelay 360
ObjectTemplate.teamOnVehicle 1

In their coding, DICE give the names of the type of vehicle that will spawn. Notice that this one is denoted as “SpdBoat”. This is what DICE have always used for spawning RIBS in BF2 (refer to the Devils Perch GamePlayObjects.con for an example).
Seeing as there is actually a road that goes all around that side of the map that runs from the SAS uncap to the Palace, did Warlord, originally, include the river that is seen on the left side of the map???

It is also worth noting that the original making of the map would have also included a few more ATV's, heavy transports (Humvee/Vodnik) and even an additional APC. Although these were obviously changed during testing, this isn't as “hair raising” as the thought of river raids on this map.
